Casemiro calls for Brazil to stay grounded amid talk of World Cup favouritism

Casemiro has highlighted the importance of Brazil remaining grounded after being labelled as one of the favourites to win the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.

Brazil last lifted football s most prestigious trophy 20 years ago, when Ronaldo Nazario scored eight goals as Luiz Filipe Scolari s team triumphed in Japan and South Korea.

However, Tite s team have been tipped by many to end that drought this year, with the Selecao topping the FIFA World Rankings ahead of the tournament and seeing the likes of Neymar and Vinicius Junior start the club season in fine form.

Speaking to Manchester United s media channels, Casemiro said: There are two sides to it. Of course, there s no hiding from the fact Brazil are favourites, but the favourites don t always win in football, t…

Future bright as Spain win U21 Euros

Spain have lifted the European Under-21 Championships title, thanks to a 2-0 victory over Switzerland in Saturday s final.

Just like their country’s senior team, Spain now hold the title as Europe’s best in their age group after they rounded off a successful tournament with the triumph in Aarhus, Denmark.

A draw against England in their first match in the tournament had been their only blemish to a perfect record that included wins against the Czech Republic, Ukraine and Belarus on their path to the final, with the latter coming in extra-time.

But despite the semi-final scare, Spain were simply too good for Switzerland as their passing, ball control and movement stood out, just like it had done all tournament.

They took the lead with four first-half …

How will Sir Alex’s new signings fit in at United?

With the start of the Premier League season quickly approaching, Manchester United’s three new summer signings will be looking to prove themselves to Sir Alex Ferguson in a bid to secure first team football. The most likely signing to receive the most playing time is goalkeeper David de Gea. Second in line is Ashley Young, who even if he is not starting is likely to play as the super-sub for the Reds. That leaves Phil Jones as the odd one out, for the time being.

David de Gea

Despite Anders Lindegaard’s fine display during the World Football Challenge, de Gea remains the favourite to grab the position vacated by Dutch legend Edwin van der Sar. Although he’s only been a starting first-team for two seasons, his shot-stopping ability is undeniable. Last seas…

Swansea City v Leicester City: Monk focused amid Moses row

Garry Monk insists Swansea City are not dwelling on last weekend s events at the Britannia Stadium ahead of their clash with Leicester City.

A controversial first-half penalty, converted by Stoke City s Charlie Adam, became the focus of the post-match analysis after Jonathan Walters had netted a late winner for the hosts.

Monk was scathing in his assessment of the spot-kick award stating that Victor Moses had cheated the referee when he went down under a challenge from Angel Rangel.

The Swansea boss was later contacted by the Football Association to clarify his post-match comments.

With Leicester the visitors to the Liberty Stadium this weekend, Monk claimed his full focus was now on returning to winning ways in the Premier League.
